Here is two ads for the price of one. I thought I would group these two ads together since the are for the same game. The New Dungeon! A simplified version of Dungeons and Dragons, this was a revised version of the 1975 game, wait for it...Dungeon.

Talking "Patty Prayer" Doll Year

The scoop
Patty Prayer was a doll that recites a famous bedtime prayer and can also sings "Brother John!". The perfect toy in indoctrinate your child with. What makes me wonder is who are they trying to sell this doll to? The ad was the back cover to Marvel Team-up #65. Not a cheap advertisement. I wouldn't imagine that the average reader of this comic book would be interested in a praying doll. I've read that the doll sounded demonic once the battery started running low.
First came Gobots, then came the Transformers...or is it the other way around. Anyway, shortly after came MORPHODROIDS! The difference between the latter with the former was that MORPHODROIDS were remote control! Not wireless mind you, but remote nonetheless. The controller was attached via a cable.

The Scoop
Named after an American expression for diarrhea contracted while visiting Mexico, the game was actually leaked prior to it's release in 1984. It was in turn heavily pirated. I didn't even realize this stuff was happening over 25 years ago. For more info read up on it and see screenshots here.

The Scoop
So this appears to be a game, at least in the arcade version, with a history of tournament play as well as Guinness World Record involvement. I mean, a dude named Brandon Erickson played this game for 54 hours straight...on a single credit. They are even selling DVD's of the performance. The game must be good right? Right?

The Scoop
I'm not a role play gamer. I dabbled a bit in my youth but never really got into it. However this ad along with the one for the Basic Rules set really appealed to me. It just looked really cool. I wish I did play D&D, I want to be part of the club. Now in my mid thirties I sometimes contemplate picking up the basic rule set and getting together with my friend Trevor, whom I've known since grade three, and try cranking out a campaign. Then again Trevor has two kids and we are both fairly busy. Plus I have a copy of Descent with the Road to Legend expansion. I think I'll just stick with that. Maybe I'll have to wait until I have teenage children of my own to play with.
This is one of those ads like Metal Gear that really appealed to the teen-age me. The game actually became a comic book published by Archie Comics in 1989 and was one of the earlier books drawn by the amazing Amanda Conner. Check out the TV commercial below. The first three seconds had me very worried...
