Ad Suggestions

Are there any ads that you would like to be featured? An ad that has stuck in your head for the last 20 plus years? Let me know and I will try to track the ad down and include any interesting tidbits I can find on it. Either leave a comment or email me at fourcolorpromises@gmail.com

  1. I always liked the Hostess food ads. They had original DC and Marvel superhero comic shorts with their food int them and are really classics. Also the public service announcements to kids via Marvel and DC characters. Nothing like Superman busting you and your palls throwing rocks in the windows of the old school book warehouse then giving you the "speach" and then turning you over to the cops afterwards.

    Them some life lessons,
    Brian

  3. Another cool ad I always looked for in comics as a kid was the new Saturday morning cartoon line up. They use to do a 2-page ad of the cartoons in comic form. That was about the only way I knew what was on and when. The days before 24/7 cartoon cable channels was tough on a kid who needed his cartoon fix. Whenever Soul Train came on I knew my cartoon enjoyment was over and it was back to comics, GI Joe and video games.

    Ahh, the good 'ol days,
    Brian

I will ad more as I come across them. I also remember the networks airing Friday Prime Time previews of the upcoming cartoons.

  5. That's right! It was a big to-do for that 15 minutes of previews.

It was cool being a kid of the 70s-80s,

  6. Do you recall or have come across any ads for an action figure named "Big Jim"? He had a jet plane, I believe, and the became the leader of team of juiced up GIJoe types called the "Wolf P.A.C" or something like that. The figures were taller than the Mego Super Heroes, but shorter than the real GIJoes of the time (this was the "Kung Fu Grip" era)- If you have any guess what I'm talking about based on my spotty recollection, it'd be awesome to see the ads! I remember them being sort of slick versions of Kirby-drawn dudes- Am I making any sense?
